Tempura

This is an excellent recipe to use on all kinds of fried foods. It can be used on strips of meat, shrimp, fish and sliced vegetables.

What you’ll need:

¼ c flour
1/3 c ice water
¼ c cornstarch
1 egg yolk
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp sugar
1 tsp shortening
½ tsp baking powder

Mix together all ingredients until well combined. Dip individual pieces of desired food into mixture, coating well. Carefully place a few pieces at a time into hot oil. Fry until golden brown, usually about 1 ½ minutes. Use a slotted metal spoon to removed product from hot oil. Drain on paper towel lined plate.
